In overhauling the network I decided to give away an old HP 1022 laserjet and install a newer Brother HL-1110 that I had hanging around, but whilst the HP 1022 worked fine with DSM’s printer integration, Synology had dropped support for the whole feature some time ago and the newer printer was not supported. In addition the printer would only print once and then stop printing. This is how I resolved it using Docker and a container with CUPS.

As mentioned in the previous network-related post, I not only fixed the corner up but also bought a Lenovo Thinkcentre M72e Tiny. Its a tiny little device which I plan on using for experimenting with dockers, vm’s, proxmox and all that jazz without affecting my NAS nor the Raspberry Pi. I also caught a reasonable deal for 8gb of RAM and decided to upgrade the NAS off the bat, especially seeing as the number of docker containers started increasing steadily!

Welp! a whole year has passed since last major change but here we are, v1.7, with a newfangled projects page (including a gallery), some touching up in CSS and a few bug fixes.

So with much careful deliberation over my previous adventures, I decided to stop screwing around and just build the network/homelab as I wanted. This involved removing old devices and cleaning cables, new NAS drive, new dedicated Virtual Machine box, and moving different services around!

An experiment in using ipython widgets, fastai and binder to create a highly practical and necessary ‘beercan or bacon’ classifier, available through the internet!

Lately been mostly using python, so to not let the knowledge of Matlab slip away I thought I should do minor exercises also in Matlab…In this case, I chose to approximate Pi using Monte Carlo methods, another quick 30min project!

I will always admit I suffer from digital compulsive hoarding, practically saving everything digital I interact with. If I watch it on Netflix or Amazon, I’ll go download it right after, even if I never watch it again.

After the other month’s adventures in just buying the cursed microserver, this is the collection of adventures in toiling away at getting it all working, and then selling it anyways.
